In the 18th century, within the house, a cooking pot would be suspended in the hearth into which the ingredients for the meal for that day were added. To cook and be reheated as required.
The quality of these ingredients, of course, varied from day to day.
Therefore, if visitors called unexpectedly and were invited to eat, they could be treated to a wonderful meal or something far less so !
Literally, they would take ‘Pot Luck’ , ‘ La Fortune du Pot ‘
But, above all, it was about the sharing of a simple meal with their hosts, not prepared in advance, without any airs and graces.
Nowadays, whilst still retaining the notion of improvisation and simplicity, it also means a warm welcome and good company.
It is in this spirit that we will warmly welcome you and will do everything we can to ensure you have a wonderful meal and a pleasant experience.
Vézelay, the colline éternelle, was, and still is, a place of pilgrimage:
An assembly point for Crusaders en route to the Holy Land or a starting point for pilgrims, like those setting off for Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, and a destination in itself for those drawn to the relics of Saint Marie Madeleine.
This jewel of Burgundy, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, provides the opportunity to spend a relaxing and enchanting weekend visiting museums and cultural sites or just simply admiring the fabulous landscape of the Morvan.
Located at the foot of the main street and close to the parking areas, this restaurant offers traditional Burgundian fare and other French dishes based on fresh, quality produce.
Our dining room with a total capacity of 30 covers provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
In the warmer months, a terrace catering for a further 50 guests means you can enjoy a lunchtime or evening meal at the foot of the colline éternelle (eternal hill) and take in the sights and sounds of Vézelay whilst you dine.
We speak both English and Spanish (and French!) and a Wifi connection is available for free.
